YouTube Shorts Are Terrible: Here's Why - YouTube has become one of the most popular platforms for sharing videos and content. The growth of user-generated content has grown exponentially over the last few years, and a lot of that content has come in the form of "YouTube Shorts". For those of you who may not know what Shorts are, they are basically short videos that last 15 seconds or less. While the idea of a short video may be appealing, in reality they are usually terrible. Here's why.
First and foremost, Shorts are extremely low quality when it comes to content. Because they are so short and most of the time require a more amateur style of shooting and editing in order to be watchable, Shorts rarely have any substantial information. This leads to most Shorts being made up of random clips or comedy videos that appeal to the younger audience. On the one hand, this makes YouTube Shorts somewhat entertaining, however on the flip side it drastically reduces the overall quality of content being produced.
Furthermore, it seems that the majority of YouTube Shorts are made with the sole purpose of reaching the algorithm. This means that people will upload a short video, with the hope that it will gain traction and quickly spread. As a result, many of the videos come off as blatant attempts from people to "go viral", often meaning that the quality of the content suffers as a result.
Additionally, what makes YouTube Shorts so bad is the fact that too many aspiring "influencers" have been utilizing the platform to get more views and subscribers. This is usually done through basic edits and using stock music, which makes all of the Shorts look and sound the same. This destroys the originality that should be present in any piece of content, and it leads to most YouTube Shorts being generic as a result.
At the end of the day, YouTube Shorts are a great idea in theory, but in reality they have mostly been terrible. With low quality content, blatant attempts to algorithm abuse, and too many unoriginal Shorts ruining the platform, it's now clear why YouTube Shorts are not as good as they could be. Hopefully, things will change in the future and YouTube will be able to create a better Shorts platform for everyone.
